Two young Cleveland residents, 20-year-old Heaven Hennings and 19-year-old Caiden Ozanich, died following a devastating single-vehicle crash on Interstate 71 in Strongsville Saturday afternoon, August 15, 2026.
According to police, the crash occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-71 between Pearl Road and Royalton Road. A vehicle carrying three people reportedly left the roadway before coming to rest in a ditch.
The collision triggered a major emergency response. Police officers, firefighters, paramedics, ambulances and medical helicopters were dispatched to the scene as emergency crews worked to reach the occupants and provide medical assistance.
Hennings, 20, of Cleveland, was transported to a hospital by ambulance. Despite efforts to save her life, she was pronounced dead after arriving for treatment.
Ozanich, 19, also of Cleveland, died at the crash scene from injuries sustained in the collision.
The driver, identified as 20-year-old I’saic Pace of Cleveland, suffered multiple injuries and was transported by medical helicopter to a hospital for treatment.
The seriousness of the crash resulted in a portion of I-71 being shut down while emergency personnel worked at the scene and investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Authorities have not released details explaining why the vehicle suddenly left the interstate. The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation.
For the families and friends of Hennings and Ozanich, however, the investigation is only one part of a much greater tragedy. Both victims were barely into adulthood, with much of their lives still ahead of them.
Heaven Hennings was only 20 years old, while Caiden Ozanich was 19. Their sudden deaths have left two families facing an unimaginable loss.
Friends and loved ones are now left to remember them through photographs, conversations, shared experiences and the everyday moments that became precious after their deaths.
