M6 Traffic Accident Today: Lorry Fire Causes Major Delays Near Knutsford

Motorists on the M6 are facing significant delays this morning after a large vehicle caught fire on the northbound carriageway near Knutsford, Cheshire.

The incident happened between Junction 18 for Middlewich and Junction 19 for Knutsford, with emergency services called to the scene at around 8 a.m. Three fire engines were reportedly sent to tackle the lorry fire.

The northbound M6 has been closed while firefighters deal with the incident. National Highways reported delays of up to 100 minutes, with traffic queues stretching for approximately six miles.

The southbound carriageway has since reopened, although drivers are still experiencing delays of around 15 minutes, with congestion reported over roughly two miles.

Drivers heading toward Knutsford and surrounding areas are being advised to avoid the affected section of the M6 where possible and allow additional time for their journeys.

Authorities have not reported any confirmed fatalities or serious injuries in connection with the vehicle fire. The situation remains active, and traffic conditions may change as emergency crews complete their work.
