Arlene Leakeas and Mark Leakeas Obituary, MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — Arlene Leakeas, 79, of Dracut, Massachusetts, and her son, Mark Leakeas, 59, of Tyngsborough, Massachusetts, have died following a fatal rollover crash on Interstate 290 in Marlborough on Monday afternoon.
The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office identified Arlene and Mark Leakeas as the two victims killed in the crash on Thursday, August 13. Both were pronounced dead at the scene after the serious collision, which occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m. on eastbound I-290 near the Interstate 495 interchange.
According to authorities, the Marlborough Fire Department and Massachusetts State Police responded to reports of a serious multi-vehicle crash. Emergency crews arriving at the scene found that Arlene and Mark had been ejected from the vehicle they were traveling in and had suffered fatal injuries.
The crash also involved another vehicle that came to rest down an embankment. A woman inside that vehicle was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for treatment of unspecified injuries. Authorities have not released further details regarding her condition.
Two dogs were also inside the vehicle with Arlene and Mark during the crash and were ejected. One of the dogs was reported to be uninjured, while the second sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in Grafton for treatment. Its current condition has not been released.
The fatal crash has left family members, friends, and the communities of Dracut and Tyngsborough mourning the loss of Arlene and Mark Leakeas. Their lives are being remembered as investigators continue working to determine the circumstances that led to the collision.
