The Bergen Catholic community is mourning the death of Claire Elizabeth Quinn, 57, of Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey, whose warmth, generosity, and devotion to family and community left a lasting impression on those who knew her. Claire died peacefully at home on August 10, 2026, surrounded by her family, following an 18-month battle with brain cancer.
Claire was born November 12, 1968, in New York City and later grew up in Ridgewood, New Jersey. A talented athlete, she played Division I soccer at St. Bonaventure University, where she studied journalism and met her future husband, Michael Quinn. The couple married in 1994 and built a family centered on faith, friendship, laughter, and love.
She was a devoted mother to their three sons, Ian, Carter, and Nathaniel, enthusiastically supporting them through their childhood activities and milestones. Claire also maintained close relationships with her mother, siblings, extended family, and a wide circle of friends, many of whom became like family to her.
Professionally, Claire eventually found a particularly meaningful role at Bergen Catholic High School as a Philanthropy Gift Officer. Her background in journalism and natural ability to connect with people allowed her to help tell stories and inspire generosity in support of students and their families. She also served her faith community through CCD teaching at St. Gabriel’s Church and helped co-found the Angel Fund at Ho-Ho-Kus School.
Claire’s family remembers her as joyful, loving, loyal, and compassionate, with an ability to make people feel valued. Even as her illness progressed, she continued expressing the words that defined so much of her life: “I love you.”
She is survived by her husband, three sons, mother, brothers, nieces and nephews, extended family, and many friends. Visitation is scheduled for August 14, followed by a funeral Mass on August 15 at St. Gabriel the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Saddle River.
Claire’s legacy will continue through the people she loved, the students she supported, and the community she served. A scholarship established in her name will further carry forward her commitment to kindness and generosity.
