Hubert Matherne III Obituary, ST. CHARLES PARISH, La. — Hubert Matherne III, 40, of Des Allemands, Louisiana, has died following a fatal pedestrian crash on U.S. 90 in St. Charles Parish early Thursday morning. Authorities said Matherne was struck by a vehicle while walking along the roadway.
According to Louisiana State Police, Matherne was walking in the westbound lanes of U.S. 90 near Carlon Drive shortly before 3:30 a.m. when he was hit by a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse traveling westbound.
State police identified Matherne as the person killed in the collision. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to investigators.
Authorities said Matherne was wearing light-colored clothing at the time of the crash. The driver of the Chevrolet Traverse was wearing a seat belt and was not injured in the collision.
Following the crash, Louisiana State Police responded to the scene and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal pedestrian incident. Investigators are reviewing evidence and working to determine the events that led up to the crash.
State police said the circumstances surrounding why Matherne was in the westbound lanes of U.S. 90 and the events immediately before the collision remain under investigation. Impairment is not currently believed to have been a factor, though routine toxicology samples were collected as part of the investigation.
