Sean Smida Obituary-The Toms River, New Jersey, community is mourning the unexpected loss of Sean Smida, who passed away on July 21, 2026, at the age of 38 while doing what he loved most—fishing at sea. His sudden passing has left family, friends, coworkers, and loved ones grieving the loss of a devoted husband, loving father, dedicated craftsman, and loyal friend.
Born and raised in Toms River, Sean attended East Toms River Regional Schools before graduating from Ocean County Vocational Technical School, where he earned certifications in Collision Repair. He built a successful career as a highly skilled auto body painter, spending much of his professional life with the Lester Glenn family, where he served as Head Painter and Union Shop Steward. His strong work ethic, leadership, and commitment earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout his career.
Sean also spent several years working at Grumpy’s Tackle, where he combined his love for fishing with his passion for helping others. Known for mentoring young anglers and sharing his knowledge of the sport, he became a familiar and respected figure within the local fishing community.
Above all else, Sean’s greatest pride was his family. He shared 16 years of marriage with his high school sweetheart, Krystal, and was a devoted father to their children, Conner and Scarlett, who were the center of his world. He cherished every moment spent with his family and was known for his unwavering love, generosity, and dedication to those closest to him.
Sean is survived by his loving wife, Krystal; his children, Conner and Scarlett; his parents, Don and Nancy; his siblings, Amanda, Jay, and Trevor; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Billy, Ashley, and Morgan; and his 12 beloved nieces and nephews: Abby, Brooklyn, Josephine, Jaxon, Luke, Charlotte, Dexter, Kylie, Oliver, Ruby, Bode, and Alanna.
Family and friends remember Sean as someone whose kindness, sense of humor, and generous spirit touched everyone he met. Whether at work, on the water, or with family, he lived with passion, integrity, and a willingness to help others.
A Celebration of Life was held on August 4, 2026, at Pig and the Parrot Sandbar in Brielle, New Jersey, where loved ones gathered to share memories and celebrate Sean’s remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to support Krystal, Conner, and Scarlett through a GoFundMe campaign or at Grumpy’s Tackle in Seaside Park.
Sean Smida’s legacy will live on through the family he cherished, the friends he inspired, and the countless lives he touched with his compassion, hard work, and love of fishing.
